Combat Hospital season 1 episode 4, titled "Wrong Place at Wrong Time," follows the medical staff of the Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit as they deal with the aftermath of a roadside bombing that injures Canadian soldiers and civilians in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
The episode opens with the staff preparing for a routine visit from a visiting general. However, their plans are quickly derailed as they receive word of the bombing and the casualties it has caused. The hospital is flooded with injured soldiers, civilians, and even suspected insurgents.
With limited resources and the need to treat all patients equally, the medical team must prioritize their patients and their injuries. Dr. Simon Hill (played by Luke Mably), a plastic surgeon, is brought in to help treat the more severe burn victims. Meanwhile, Major Rebecca Gordon (played by Michelle Borth), an American trauma surgeon, must work quickly to save the life of a young Afghan girl with a serious abdominal wound.
As the chaos ensues, tensions rise between the Canadian and American military forces as they struggle to determine who the suspected insurgents are and what should be done with them. This is further complicated as it is discovered that one of the suspected insurgents is actually a bilingual Canadian journalist who was mistakenly at the scene of the bombing.
Throughout the episode, the medical staff works tirelessly to save lives, without regard to political or military factions. They tackle complicated surgeries and emotional wounds of both the patients and the staff members themselves. The episode comes to a close with the staff dealing with the consequences of their actions and the weight of the decisions they were forced to make.
Overall, "Wrong Place at Wrong Time" is a gripping and intense episode that highlights the horrors of war and the difficult decisions that must be made in times of crisis. It also shows the dedication and selflessness of those who work in the medical field, who put their own lives on the line to save others.
