Ep 5. An Officer's Promise
- November 6, 2021
In the latest episode of Cold Justice, titled "An Officer's Promise," the team heads to Homestead, Florida to investigate the murder of 20-year-old college student Bryan Perez. Bryan was found stabbed to death in a wooded area near his home in March of 2015. The police had very little evidence to go on and the case soon went cold.
The victim's family had been eagerly waiting for justice and were hopeful when the Cold Justice team arrived in their town. The team, led by former prosecutor Kelly Siegler and retired homicide detective Steve Spingola, quickly got to work on the case. They started by reviewing the old evidence and revisiting the crime scene.
The team discovered that Bryan was last seen alive at a club with a friend. The friend, who was also heavily intoxicated that night, didn't remember much but did recall seeing a man who seemed to be following them. In addition, a witness reported seeing a man matching the same description in the area where Bryan's body was later found.
The team also uncovered other witnesses who reported seeing a suspicious person in the area around the time of Bryan's murder. One witness described a man who was lurking near the crime scene and appeared to be hiding something.
As the team delved deeper into the investigation, they discovered that the victim's father was a police officer. This revelation raised some questions and concerns for the team, as they knew that police officers are sometimes privy to information that the public is not.
Despite this, Kelly and Steve persisted and, after conducting several interviews, they were able to identify a suspect. The suspect had possible connections to the victim's family and had been seen in the area around the time of the murder.
The team then began to build their case against the suspect. They used phone records, surveillance footage, and witness statements to piece together what had happened on the night of the murder. They also worked with the local police to conduct a search of the suspect's vehicle and property, which yielded some crucial evidence.
As the case neared its conclusion, the team came face to face with the suspect. The suspect denied any involvement in Bryan's murder, but the evidence against him was overwhelming.
In the end, Kelly and Steve worked with the local police to arrest the suspect and bring him to trial. The victim's family was overjoyed to finally have some closure and justice for their son.
Overall, "An Officer's Promise" was a gripping episode that showcased the dedicated work of the Cold Justice team. Through their perseverance and attention to detail, they were able to solve a long-standing cold case and bring closure to a grieving family.
