The show Cold Justice is a true-crime documentary series that revolves around Kelly Siegler, a former Texas prosecutor, and her team of experts who help local law enforcement agencies solve cold cases. In the season 5 episode 20 named Small Town Predator, Kelly and her team travel to the small town of Vidor, Texas, to investigate a case that has remained unsolved for more than 20 years.
The case they are investigating is that of Angie Dodge, a 19-year-old girl who was brutally murdered in her Idaho Falls apartment in 1996. The prime suspect in the case was a man named Christopher Tapp, who was found guilty of the murder in 1998 and was sentenced to life in prison. However, as the years went by, doubts started to surface about his guilt, and in 2017, DNA evidence proved that he was innocent.
After the DNA evidence exonerated Tapp, the authorities believed that the real killer was still out there and could be living in Vidor, Texas. They asked Kelly and her team to investigate the case and see if they could find any new leads.
The team starts their investigation by revisiting the crime scene and talking to the original investigators. They also meet with the victim's mother, who is still trying to come to terms with her daughter's death. They soon discover that the case is more complicated than they initially thought.
Angie's murder was a particularly brutal one, and there were signs that the killer had been stalking her for some time before the attack. The investigators also found evidence of someone who had been peeping through her window. Based on these clues, Kelly and her team believe that the killer is someone who knew Angie and had been watching her for a while.
The team interviews several people who knew Angie, including her friends and former boyfriends. They also talk to people who lived in the same apartment complex as her. Through their interviews, they start to piece together a timeline of Angie's final days and the people she interacted with.
As they investigate further, they uncover a disturbing pattern of behavior by one of Angie's former boyfriends. They discover that he had a history of violence towards women and had even been arrested for breaking into a woman's apartment. The team believes that he is the most likely suspect in Angie's murder.
However, before they can bring him in for questioning, they need to find more evidence. They enlist the help of a forensic pathologist to re-examine the autopsy report and see if there is anything that was missed previously. They also use advanced DNA technology to try and identify the killer's DNA from the crime scene.
As the investigation unfolds, the team faces several obstacles, including uncooperative witnesses and a lack of physical evidence. However, they remain determined to find the killer and bring him to justice.
In the end, the team uncovers a shocking twist in the case that nobody saw coming. They identify the killer and bring him to justice, bringing closure to Angie's family and justice to the victim. The show ends with Kelly and her team feeling a sense of accomplishment, knowing that they were able to solve a horrific crime and bring justice to a small town.
