In the 15th episode of the second season of Cold Justice, Kelly Siegler and Yolanda McClary travel to Alamogordo, New Mexico to investigate the murder of Bonnie Woodward. In 1985, the 33-year-old mother was found dead on the side of Sunspot Highway, and her killer has never been identified.
The Cold Justice team meets with local law enforcement and Bonnie's family to gather as much information as possible about the case. They learn that Bonnie was a single mother who had overcome a difficult childhood and was working hard to provide for her son. She had recently begun dating a man named Joe Miranda, but nobody knows much about him.
Kelly and Yolanda start their investigation by visiting the crime scene, where they find that there are still physical clues that could lead to the killer. They also interview Bonnie's friends and family, as well as potential suspects. One person of interest is a man named Paul Apodaca, who was known to be obsessively infatuated with Bonnie.
The Cold Justice team uses modern forensic technology to analyze evidence that was collected at the crime scene over thirty years ago. They send a shoe print and a hair sample to be tested, hoping to find a match to a suspect. They also use a new technique called genetic genealogy to help identify potential suspects by analyzing DNA samples from distant relatives.
As the investigation continues, the team discovers that Bonnie's case is connected to another unsolved murder in the same area. They begin to suspect that a serial killer may be responsible for both deaths. They interview more witnesses and dive deeper into the backgrounds of potential suspects.
With the help of the local police department, the Cold Justice team finally pieces together the evidence needed to solve Bonnie's murder. They identify a suspect and confront him with the evidence. The suspect is shocked to be caught after three decades, and eventually confesses to the murder.
The episode ends on a bittersweet note, with Bonnie's family finally getting closure after so many years of uncertainty. The Cold Justice team reflects on the importance of solving these cold cases and bringing justice to the victims and their families.
