The show Cold Case season 2 episode 9, titled "Mind Hunters," follows detective Lilly Rush and her team as they investigate the case of a young woman who was found dead in 1988. The victim, named Donna, was a bright and promising college student with a passion for psychology. Her body was discovered on a jogging path, strangled with her own shoelace. The case was never solved, and Donna's family has been waiting for answers for over a decade.

The episode begins with Lilly and her team receiving a tip from a retired detective who worked on the case. He tells them that he recently spoke to a former inmate who claims to know the identity of Donna's killer. The inmate, a convicted serial killer named John Curtis, says that he remembers seeing a man in the area where Donna was killed around the time of her murder. The man was acting strangely and seemed to be watching her. Curtis says that he didn't think much of it at the time, but now believes that the man may have been responsible for Donna's death.

Lilly and her team begin to investigate the lead, hoping to finally solve the cold case. They first speak to Donna's family, who are grateful that the case is being revisited. They provide the detectives with Donna's diary, which reveals that she was interested in studying criminal behavior and was even considering becoming an FBI profiler. This information leads the team to believe that the killer may have been someone who was fascinated with the psychology of murder.

The detectives then turn their attention to John Curtis. They interview him in prison, hoping to gather more information about the man he saw on the day of Donna's murder. Curtis is a creepy and manipulative character, and the detectives quickly realize that they can't trust anything he says. However, he does provide them with some important clues, including the fact that the killer was most likely someone who knew the area well and had a place to hide nearby.

As they continue to investigate, Lilly and her team discover that Donna had been working on a special project for one of her classes. She was studying the psychology of serial killers and had been corresponding with several notorious killers, including one who was currently on death row. The detectives believe that the killer may have been someone who had a connection to one of these killers and was inspired by their behavior.

The investigation takes a dramatic turn when the detectives receive a call from the man they believe may be the killer. He identifies himself as a federal agent and claims to have information about the murder. However, the detectives quickly realize that the man is lying, and he hangs up when confronted. They trace the call to a nearby motel and rush to the scene. When they arrive, they find the room empty but discover evidence that the man had been there recently. They also find a notebook containing disturbing sketches and notes about Donna and her murder.

Using the evidence they've gathered, Lilly and her team are able to identify the killer and track him down. The final scenes of the episode are tense and emotional as they confront the killer and bring him to justice. The family of the victim finally gets the closure they've been seeking for over a decade, and Lilly and her team can take pride in another case solved. Overall, "Mind Hunters" is a gripping and suspenseful episode that showcases the talent and dedication of the detectives who work cold cases.
