Neil learns how they used the land for food, shelter, and medicine, and he also discovers the significance of the sacred mountain, Gulaga.
Next, Neil heads to Bega to explore the abalone industry. He meets up with a local fisherman, Craig Warton, who takes him out on his boat to show him how abalone are harvested from the sea. Neil is amazed by the dangerous work and discovers why abalone are so valuable in Asian markets. The team then heads to Montague Island, a natural wonder that lies off the coast of Narooma. Neil meets up with marine biologist Dr. Keith Hayes and National Parks ranger John Smyth to learn about the island's rich wildlife, including New Zealand fur seals, Little Penguins, and Wedge-tailed Shearwaters. They also discuss the challenges of managing conservation efforts on an island that is vulnerable to climate change and human impact.
The episode then takes a look at Narooma's unique oyster industry. Neil travels to Wagonga Inlet to meet with Mark Allsopp, an oyster farmer who has been harvesting the local Sydney Rock Oysters for over 30 years. He learns about the techniques used to cultivate oysters and their importance to the local economy. Neil also discovers the environmental challenges threatening the industry, such as sedimentation and climate change.
Finally, the episode ends with an exploration of Batemans Bay, a popular tourist destination. Neil talks to locals about the area's history and how it has evolved into the vibrant community it is today. He visits Clyde River oyster farm to see how they use artificial reefs to create sustainable habitats for oysters, and he also discovers the environmental issues facing the area, such as erosion and pollution.
