Ep 8. Coral Coast of WA

Coast Australia season 1 episode 8 takes us to the stunning Coral Coast of Western Australia, a region renowned for its stunning turquoise waters and incredible marine life. Despite this, the reefs around Exmouth are still teeming with life, and the team has the opportunity to swim amongst stunning schools of brightly colored fish and explore the intricate formations of the coral.

As they venture further up the coast, the team encounters one of the country's most iconic inhabitants, the saltwater crocodile. Along the banks of the mighty Fitzroy River, Neil, Tim, and Emma encounter these ancient reptiles in their natural habitat, and learn about the vital role they play in the ecosystem. The team also explore the unique mangrove forests that line the riverbank, and discover the many species of birdlife that call this area home.

Further up the coast, the team reaches the spectacular Ningaloo Reef, one of the largest fringing coral reefs in the world. Here, they meet with local Aboriginal elders who share the history and culture of the region, and learn about their deep connection to the sea and the land. The team also explores the stunning blue lagoon, a tranquil stretch of turquoise water that lies just beyond the reef, and marvels at the incredible diversity of marine life on display.

As the journey draws to a close, the team heads inland to the rugged and remote Pilbara region, known for its rich mineral deposits and starkly beautiful landscapes. Here, they discover ancient rock art, dating back tens of thousands of years, and learn about the ways in which the local people have adapted and thrived in this harsh environment.
