In this episode, viewers meet Bob, a new neighbor in Birdwell Island who moves into a small home next to Clifford’s. Bob is a bit of an oddball and has unusual habits that make the other neighbors curious about him. When Clifford and his friends are on a walk, they notice Bob's peculiar behavior and become quite interested in learning more about him.
In the first part of the episode, "Best Paw Forward," Clifford, Emily Elizabeth, and her friends visit Bob and ask him to come play with them at the park. However, Bob is reluctant to leave his house and declines the invitation. Clifford and the gang are disappointed, but Emily Elizabeth assures them that they will have other opportunities to hang out with Bob. They decide to leave Bob alone and return to their park playdate.
Meanwhile, Back at Bob’s house, the pups see something odd: Bob digging a deep hole in his backyard. They become curious and start to watch him closely to try and figure out what he is doing. They see him burying something and then making a small mound on top of it. They are even more curious now and try to come up with theories on what he might be burying and why. They become so engrossed in their investigation that they forget all about their park playdate.
In the second part of the episode, "Then Came Bob," Clifford and his friends bump into Bob again while on a walk. They are eager to find out about his strange behavior and ask him outright what he was doing in his backyard. Bob, who is a bit shy, hesitates but eventually confides in Clifford and the gang. He tells them that he is a geologist and that he was digging for rocks to study. He concludes that he thought the kids next door might dislike him because he is different.
This revelation takes the children by surprise, but they quickly understand and encourage Bob to embrace his differences. They tell him that he is now part of the Birdwell Island family and that they love him just the way he is. With this newfound confidence, Bob joins Emily Elizabeth and her friends at the park to play fetch and other games. The episode ends with everyone enjoying themselves, proving that being different can be a beautiful thing.
