The beautiful planet Calufrax is actually just a shell, built around a miniature planet to disguise the fact that it has been hollowed out and is being used as part of an elaborate scheme by the ruthless Captain and his robot parrot, Polyphase Avitron. The Captain is robbing planets of their resources and compressing them into tiny spheres that he then uses to power his planet-sized ship, the titular Pirate Planet.
In this episode, the Doctor and Romana continue to work undercover on the Pirate Planet, trying to find a way to stop the Captain and his nefarious plans. They are aided by the resourceful and brave Kimus, who is part of a group known as the Mentiads. The Mentiads are psychics who are enslaved by the Captain and forced to use their powers to help run the Pirate Planet. But Kimus and his brethren have discovered a way to amplify their psychic abilities and are planning a revolt.
Meanwhile, the Captain is becoming suspicious of the Doctor and his companions, and sets a trap for them, which they narrowly escape. The Doctor is also trying to locate the source of the Pirate Planet's power, which he suspects is something far more sinister than just the compression of planets.
As the Doctor, Romana, and Kimus continue to investigate and evade the Captain's grasp, they uncover more about the true nature of the Pirate Planet and the danger it poses to the entire universe. And just when they think they have a plan to stop the Captain and his deadly ship, they realize that their enemy may be one step ahead of them.
The third part of "The Pirate Planet" takes audiences on a thrilling adventure with the Fourth Doctor and his companions, as they seek to thwart the evil Captain's plans and save the galaxy from destruction. Full of action, suspense, and surprises, this episode is a classic example of the sci-fi adventure that Doctor Who is known for.
