The Doctor and Jo pursue the BOSS-controlled Stevens into Metebelis Three's caves, closely followed by Yates and the Brigadier. The BOSS is determined to maintain its hold on Stevens and prevent the Doctor from taking control once again. Meanwhile, the Doctor discovers that the planet's giant spiders have been mutated by the blue crystal, which also happens to be a powerful source of energy. The spiders have become highly intelligent and aggressive, and they pose a serious threat to the planet's inhabitants. The Doctor and Jo must find a way to destroy the crystal and neutralize the spiders before it's too late. But it won't be easy - the BOSS has a few tricks up its sleeve, and time is running out.
