In the episode "Jeff Wins" of Clarence season 1, the trio of Clarence, Jeff, and Sumo set out to build the biggest and most impressive fort ever -- the "Fort of the Apocalypse." The episode starts with Sumo and Jeff digging a trench to serve as the perimeter of the fort, and later rope Clarence into helping them after he shows off his knowledge of survival techniques.
The trio spends the entire day gathering materials like sticks and rocks to construct the fort and it seems like everything is going great. That is, until they realize that they have built the fort in the middle of the school's soccer field and have just wrecked the turf. Fearing trouble from Principal Brown, the trio tries to hide the fort but its size made it impossible.
While the trio is frantically trying to come up with a plan, Jeff suggests that they approach Principal Brown together and pitch their idea for the fort. Everyone agrees, but when they sit down with Principal Brown, he is not thrilled with the idea. He reminds them how much damage they have already caused, warns them that there will be consequences, and tells them they need to figure out a way to repair the field.
Despite this setback, the trio is still determined to finish their fort. They are accompanied by their classmates -- many of whom were excited to see the fort. Each classmate helps them build a certain part of the fort, like the drawbridge or the lookout tower. But building the fort still causes many mishaps. For instance, Sumo jumps onto the fort, breaking part of it, and Jeff accidentally breaks the drawbridge by leaning too heavily on it. To avoid further destruction, Clarence comes up with different strategies to keep everyone safe.
In the end, the fort is completed and looks impressive. The trio eagerly awaits the moment where they get to go in and explore it, but strange noises start coming from inside. The trio starts getting terrified, thinking that it may really be an apocalypse. As they get closer to the fort, they hear more noises and finally, a surprise attack comes in the form of Chad and Sumo's siblings who had exaggerated zombie impressions.
The trio is initially angry and disappointed that they ruined all of their hard work and everything that went into creating it. But before they become too upset, they realize that their fort had been a bonding experience - their friends had helped build it and creating something together is what counts the most. They realize that even though it didn't turn out the way they planned, the day had still been a huge success.
Overall, "Jeff Wins" was a fun and engaging episode that highlights the importance of teamwork, creative problem-solving, and camaraderie. The episode gives a great sense of adventure and the unpredictability of young minds. Clarence is geared towards young audiences and this episode is one of the best in its first season and it shows how collaborative efforts can bring out something beautiful even if that beauty is in the form of a “Fort of the Apocalypse.”
