Tomoya goes to school feeling down because he thinks he is lonely. Nagisa tries to cheer him up by inviting him to the drama club, but Tomoya declines. Later, after school, Tomoya decides to go to the Forbidden World and he encounters Fuko there. Fuko again begs Tomoya to help her sister's wedding by carving wooden starfish for the guests, but Tomoya, who again forgets about Fuko, goes away.
On his way back, Tomoya meets Nagisa on the hill and Nagisa tries to talk to him. Tomoya avoids her and drops the bag he had been carrying. Nagisa picks up the bag and sees the carving knife Tomoya had taken with him to carve the starfish. As she turns around to give it to him, she sees that Tomoya has disappeared.
At night, Nagisa can't sleep and she decides to go outside. She sees a train coming towards her and jumps out of the way. But the train disappears and a group of children appear in front of her. One of them is the small girl Tomoya had met in the first few episodes. She tells Nagisa that she has been waiting for Tomoya for a long time and that Nagisa must help him. Nagisa wakes up, thinking it was only a dream.
Next day, Tomoya meets Fuko again at school and promises to help her sister's wedding by carving the starfish. Nagisa thanks him for choosing to help Fuko and appears to be happy. Later, Nagisa tells Tomoya about her dreams, and Tomoya is surprised that she has the same dream he has been having for the past few nights. Nagisa explains that lately strange things have been happening around her and she doesn't know what to do. She asks Tomoya if he has any idea about it, but Tomoya says he doesn't know.
After school, Tomoya carves the wooden starfish with Fuko and he asks her about the Forbidden World. Fuko says that it is a place where wishes come true, but also warns Tomoya that he shouldn't go there too often. While waiting for the paint on the starfish to dry, Tomoya falls asleep. When he wakes up, he finds Fuko missing. He decides to go look for her and he ends up in the Forbidden World. He sees Fuko there, surrounded by a group of children. Fuko is happy to see Tomoya, but Tomoya gets angry at her for going to such a place alone. He then sees Nagisa walking towards them.
Tomoya is confused, as he thought Nagisa was back at school. The children explain that Nagisa has been chosen to help Tomoya. Nagisa hands Tomoya a wooden fork, telling him that he must use it to carve the biggest starfish. Tomoya can only carve small starfish, but he believes he can do it with Nagisa's support. The group of children then gives Tomoya a key to a door, which will lead him to the place where he can find what he seeks.
Tomoya and Nagisa leave the Forbidden World and Tomoya goes to sleep. The next day, he wakes up and starts carving the wooden starfish. With Nagisa's cheers, he is able to carve a big starfish. When Tomoya finishes the starfish, he goes to deliver it to Fuko's sister. However, her sister doesn't recognize Tomoya, and when he looks at the bride and groom, it turns out that they are the people who got married a year ago. Suddenly, Tomoya hears the voice of the children from the Forbidden World. The children thank Tomoya for fulfilling his promise and they disappear.
Tomoya then realizes he has been dreaming. He looks at the big starfish he carved and decides to give it to Fuko. Nagisa surprises Tomoya by saying that she will come with him, and the two go to give the starfish to Fuko. Fuko is happy to see the starfish and also happy that Tomoya kept his promise. She thanks Nagisa for helping her as well. Tomoya and Nagisa then leave, and Nagisa takes Tomoya to a place where she had a lot of fun when she was a child. There, they find a small hill and Nagisa says it is her favorite place in the world. Tomoya tells Nagisa that he thinks he has found what he has been looking for.
