In the first story, "Helpful Hodge," the trainee Hodge wants to be helpful to the other engines but keeps making mistakes that cause trouble. He accidentally knocks over a pile of gravel and nearly causes a collision with other trains. Ashamed of his clumsiness, Hodge decides to quit working at the Chuggington depot and runs away from home. Worried about Hodge's disappearance, his friends - Wilson, Brewster, and Koko - set out to find him. With the help of a map, they locate Hodge at a nearby quarry, where he has been trying to make up for his mistake by clearing the gravel piles. However, Hodge has gotten himself into another dangerous situation, and his friends must work together to rescue him.
In the second story, "Action Brewster," the trainee Brewster is out on patrol when he spots an engine stuck on the track. Determined to be a hero, Brewster rushes to the rescue and tries to tow the engine out of the way. However, the engine is too heavy for him to move. Instead of giving up, Brewster thinks creatively and comes up with a plan involving a nearby crane to lift the engine off the track. Together with his fellow trainees, Brewster succeeds in moving the engine and preventing a potential disaster from occurring.
Throughout the episode, the trainees learn valuable lessons about the importance of asking for help when needed, never giving up, and thinking outside the box to solve problems. They also showcase the values of teamwork and friendship, as they support each other through both minor mishaps and life-threatening situations.
