  • June 19, 2008

Chowder season 1 episode 29, titled "The Thousand Pound Cake," follows the adventures of the titular character, a young apprentice chef whose job is to assist Mung Daal, a skilled chef and owner of the catering company. In this episode, Chowder finds himself tasked with making a thousand-pound cake for a wealthy client.

At the start of the episode, Mung Daal receives a call from an important client who requests a large cake for his daughter's birthday party. Unbeknownst to Chowder, the client wants a thousand-pound cake, a cake so enormous that it requires a lot of flour, butter, milk, and sugar to make. Mung Daal takes on the challenge and, as usual, enlists Chowder to help him out.

At first, Chowder is excited about the assignment, but he soon realizes that making a thousand-pound cake is no easy feat. He struggles to carry bags of flour that are bigger than him and finds it challenging to mix the ingredients in a gigantic bowl. When the batter is ready, he turns on the oven, but its temperature is set too high, causing him to faint from the heat.

As the baking process continues, Chowder gets increasingly frustrated by the sheer size of the cake. He is tasked with whipping cream in a gigantic food processor that he mistakenly sets too high, causing it to blow up and cover him in cream. As he tries to fix the machine, he accidentally turns the mixer on, causing chaos in the kitchen as the batter splatters everywhere.

In the midst of all this, Chowder makes several attempts to eat the cake. He initially tries to sneak a piece of it while it is still cooking in the oven, but he is caught by Mung Daal, who chastises him for his lack of self-control. Later on, when the cake is fully baked, Chowder is tempted to eat it again and does so covertly. However, he ends up feeling guilty about it and replaces the piece he ate with a smaller one before anyone can notice.

As the day of the party approaches, the cake is finally finished, but the team struggles to transport it to the client's location. The truck carrying the cake breaks down, and they are forced to carry it by hand. Chowder struggles to lift his share of the weight, and when they finally arrive at the venue, they discover that they are at the wrong location, and the actual party is miles away.

After re-locating the party, Chowder and his team finally present the cake to the client, who is ecstatic about its size. However, when he tries to cut it, he realizes that it is too heavy to move and is forced to break it apart with a hammer. The episode ends with Chowder and Mung Daal returning to their kitchen, exhausted from their efforts and vowing never to make a thousand-pound cake again.

Overall, "The Thousand Pound Cake" is a hilarious and entertaining episode that showcases the hijinks that Chowder and his team get up to while trying to complete an impossible task. It also provides a heartwarming reminder about the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving one's goals, even when the task seems impossible.
