In Chicago PD season 6 episode 2, titled "Endings," the Intelligence Unit is still reeling from the death of one of their own, Detective Alvin Olinsky. The team is putting together a plan to take down a drug kingpin, but the case takes a backseat as the team struggles to come to terms with Olinsky's death and how to move forward.
Voight (Jason Beghe) is particularly shaken by the loss of his friend and colleague. He throws himself into work to distract himself from his grief, but he can't shake the guilt he feels for not being able to save Olinsky. Meanwhile, Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) is struggling with her own emotions. She's determined to find justice for Olinsky, but she's also feeling vulnerable after the death of someone she considered a mentor.
The rest of the team is also dealing with their own grief. Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) is struggling to come to terms with his part in Olinsky's downfall, and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) is grappling with the reality of how dangerous their job really is. Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is trying to be strong for his colleagues, but he's also feeling the weight of their loss.
As the team tries to get back to work, they're forced to deal with the consequences of Olinsky's death. Voight is under investigation for his involvement in the case that led to Olinsky's death, and the rest of the team is feeling more exposed than ever. When a new case comes in, they're forced to confront their own mortality once again.
The episode also features the return of Hank's son, who has a surprise for his father. As the team deals with their grief and the fallout from Olinsky's death, they're reminded of the things that really matter in life.
Overall, "Endings" is a powerful and emotional episode that deals with themes of loss, grief, and how we move forward after tragedy. The action takes a backseat to the emotional journey of the characters, but there are still plenty of tense moments as the team tries to track down a dangerous criminal. Fans of the show won't want to miss this episode, which sets up the rest of the season in a big way.
