In the season 6 episode 15 of Chicago PD entitled "Good Men", the Intelligence Unit is tasked with investigating an apparent suicide of a Chicago police officer. The case becomes complicated as the team starts to uncover shady dealings within the police department and political corruption.
The episode opens up with the Intelligence Unit being called to a crime scene where a fellow police officer is found dead in his car. The team, including Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), Detective Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), begin to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer's apparent suicide. As details about the officer's personal life begin to emerge, such as a divorce and financial issues, the detectives initially believe that the officer was under considerable stress leading up to his death.
However, as the investigation progresses, it becomes clear that there may be more to the case than meets the eye. For one, the officer was affiliated with a group of Chicago police officers that had formed a private security company on the side. The company was hired to work security at various events throughout the city, but the detectives soon discover that their activities may have gone beyond simple security services. The team begins to delve deeper into the private security company's activities and discovers that they may be involved in illegal activity, and that the officer who died may have known too much.
As the investigation continues, the detectives begin to realize that they may be dealing with political corruption that reaches all the way to the top. One character in particular, Alderman Ray Price (Wendell Pierce), becomes a focus of the investigation. Price is a known member of a group of influential Chicagoans who are suspected of being involved in organized crime. As the detectives dig deeper, they begin to uncover a complex web of corruption that reaches far beyond the private security company.
Meanwhile, Detective Upton becomes personally involved in the case when she discovers that the officer who died was a former mentor of hers. Throughout the episode, Upton struggles to keep her emotions in check as she tries to reconcile the man she knew with the person who has emerged through the investigation.
As the Intelligence Unit learns more about the inner workings of the private security company, they begin to realize that the company may have played a role in a recent, high-profile murder that took place in the city. With this new information, the detectives must race against the clock to stop any further criminal activity and bring those responsible to justice.
The episode "Good Men" shines a light on the complex relationships and corruption that can exist within law enforcement agencies. As the detectives grapple with the weight of their investigation, they must also confront the harsh realities of the job and the difficult decisions that come with it. The episode leaves viewers on the edge of their seats as the Intelligence Unit comes closer and closer to the truth, and raises important questions about justice, morality, and loyalty.
