The Chicago Police Department's elite Intelligence Unit is back for another season, and the sixth premiere episode titled "New Normal" starts off with a bang - literally. The episode revolves around the aftermath of a shootout at a warehouse, with the team investigating the scene to uncover what exactly happened and who was involved.
The episode opens with Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Detective Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) arriving at the scene of the shootout, which resulted in multiple casualties. They immediately notice that the situation is not what it seems – the weapons used by the suspects are not the typical firearms they usually encounter on the job. Voight suspects that they may be dealing with a new and dangerous type of firearm.
As the investigation sets into motion, Voight and Halstead team up with Intelligence Unit members Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati). Together, they gather evidence and interrogate suspects, attempting to piece together what really happened.
Meanwhile, Detective Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) is dealing with the aftermath of his recent break-up with Officer Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez). He struggles to come to terms with their relationship ending and seeks solace in the company of his friend and colleague, Officer Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins).
As the investigation deepens, the team discovers that the weapons used in the shootout were part of a much larger and more dangerous operation than they had initially suspected. The situation becomes even more complicated when the team learns that there may be a mole within their own department, tipping off the criminals to their every move. The team must work quickly to identify the mole and prevent any further harm from being inflicted on innocent civilians.
In addition to the central investigation, the season six premiere also has a secondary plotline involving Burgess and her new boyfriend, Blair. Burgess struggles to balance her job and her relationship, and tensions rise when Blair's secret life is revealed. Burgess must decide whether or not to continue seeing him, unsure if she can trust him to be honest with her in the future.
Overall, the Chicago PD season six premiere episode entitled "New Normal" is a thrilling and action-packed start to the new season. Between the intense investigation, the personal struggles of the characters, and the unexpected twists and turns, "New Normal" leaves viewers eager to see what comes next for the Intelligence Unit.
