The episode starts with Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) chasing after a suspect who ends up in a car crash. The suspect tells Atwater that he knows some information about a murder but needs protection to share it with the police. Atwater arranges for him to be taken to a safe house, but things quickly take a turn when the informant is found murdered shortly after. Atwater and his team realize they have a snitch within their department who is leaking information to the wrong people.
Meanwhile, Voight (Jason Beghe) is dealing with the aftermath of his son's death while trying to keep his team together. He finds out that the officer who shot his son was part of a secret organization within the police force and begins investigating the group. The investigation leads him to a high-level official who has been covering up their actions for years. Voight must use all his resources to uncover the truth and bring justice to his son.
Back at the precinct, Burgess (Marina Squerciati) is dealing with her own issues as she tries to comfort a young girl who witnessed the murder of her brother. Burgess feels guilty for not being able to do more to protect the girl and seeks comfort in her relationship with Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). However, their relationship becomes strained when Ruzek tries to protect Burgess by withholding information from his superiors.
As the episode progresses, the tension within the department builds as the search for the snitch intensifies. The team begins to suspect each other, and alliances are tested. Atwater faces his own test of loyalty when he is forced to choose between protecting his team and his informant. The resolution to the conflict is both surprising and satisfying, leaving the audience on the edge of their seat until the very end.
