In Chicago PD's season 5 episode 2, titled "The Thing About Heroes," Voight and team respond to a bank robbery gone wrong. The robbers take hostages and begin to negotiate their release, but things quickly take a turn for the worse. Intelligence uncovers that one of the hostages has a unique connection to one of the robbers, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
Meanwhile, Atwater struggles with the aftermath of his encounter with a racist cop. Despite being told to keep quiet about the incident, Atwater refuses to stay silent and risks his career to expose the truth. As tensions rise within the department, a surprising ally emerges to help Atwater take on the corrupt officer.
Elsewhere, Burgess and Roman go undercover at a high-end party to investigate a string of thefts. When they discover a link between the thefts and a dangerous drug ring, they must quickly gather evidence to take down the organization before it's too late.
As always, the stakes are high for the members of Chicago PD as they must navigate dangerous situations both on and off the job. The episode tackles issues of race and corruption, while still delivering the intense action and suspense viewers have come to expect from the series.
