In the season 5 premiere of Chicago PD, titled "Reform," the Intelligence Unit finds itself under scrutiny as the newly appointed Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (played by guest star America Olivo) launches an investigation into police corruption and misconduct. Miller has been tasked with cleaning up the department and restoring public trust in law enforcement, and the Intelligence Unit is her first target.
At the same time, the team is dealing with a series of high-profile criminal cases, including a homicide at a nightclub and a kidnapping involving a wealthy family. Detective Erin Lindsay (played by Sophia Bush) is particularly invested in the kidnapping case, as it hits close to home for her and brings up painful memories of her own childhood.
As Miller and her team start digging into the Intelligence Unit's past actions, tensions within the team begin to rise. Voight (played by Jason Beghe) is convinced that Miller is out to get them and is determined to protect his unit, while other members of the team begin to question their own actions and blame themselves for the investigation.
Meanwhile, Lindsay's personal life is thrown into turmoil when her estranged mother Bunny (played by guest star Markie Post) shows up in Chicago, claiming to be a changed woman and seeking forgiveness from her daughter. Lindsay is torn between her mistrust of Bunny and her desire for a relationship with the mother she never had.
As the investigation and the criminal cases start to overlap, the Intelligence Unit must navigate a tricky path to keep their own secrets hidden while still solving the crimes. With Miller breathing down their necks and internal tensions threatening to tear the team apart, the season 5 premiere of Chicago PD sets the stage for a dramatic and action-packed season.
