Chicago Hope season 2 episode 6, "Who Turned Out the Lights?", centers around the chaos that ensues when a power outage occurs in the hospital during a critical surgery. The episode begins with surgeon Jeffrey Geiger (Mandy Patinkin) preparing to operate on a patient who requires immediate attention. However, before the surgery can begin, the power suddenly goes out and the emergency generators fail to kick in.

As a result, everyone in the hospital is plunged into darkness, which creates a number of challenges for the doctors and staff. Without electricity, the hospital's life-saving equipment is rendered useless, and the doctors are forced to rely on their own ingenuity to keep their patients alive.

Meanwhile, tensions rise between Geiger and his colleague, Aaron Shutt (Adam Arkin), as they both struggle to keep their patients alive in the dark. Shutt is working on a separate surgery that also requires electricity, and he becomes increasingly frustrated when Geiger repeatedly interrupts him with requests for assistance.

The situation becomes even more dire when a third surgery is added to the mix. This patient, a young boy who was injured in a car accident, needs immediate surgery to save his life. However, with the hospital in darkness, the doctors are unsure if they will be able to perform the operation in time.

Despite the chaos, the doctors and staff of Chicago Hope remain determined to save their patients. They work together to create makeshift solutions to the power outage, using everything from flashlights to car batteries to keep their patients alive.

As the episode progresses, we see the toll that the power outage takes on the characters. Geiger becomes increasingly manic as he fights to keep his patients alive, while Shutt struggles to maintain his calm demeanor in the face of mounting frustration.

Throughout the episode, we also see glimpses of the personal lives of the doctors and staff. For example, we see Geiger interact with his ex-wife, who is also a surgeon at the hospital. We also see Shutt deal with personal struggles of his own, as he grapples with his feelings for another doctor.

Overall, "Who Turned Out the Lights?" is a tense, gripping episode that showcases the resilience and determination of the doctors and staff of Chicago Hope. Despite the odds, they are able to come together and overcome the darkness in order to save their patients.
