Cheyenne season 5 episode 4, titled "Two Trails to Santa Fe," follows the journey of Cheyenne Bodie, a tough and charismatic cowboy who was once a confederate soldier. In this episode, Cheyenne is hired by a wealthy landowner, Don Luis Montoya, to guide a group of wagons carrying precious cargo to Santa Fe. The trip should take only a few days, but there are two trails they can take: one that goes over a dangerous mountain pass and one that goes through a treacherous desert. Cheyenne recommends taking the mountain pass, but Don Luis's arrogant son, Carlos, insists on taking the quicker route through the desert.

As they journey through the harsh desert, the travelers face a number of challenges, including water shortages and attacks by Apache warriors. Cheyenne proves his skill and resourcefulness time and again, but Carlos continues to ignore his advice and makes reckless decisions that put everyone in danger.

Meanwhile, a group of outlaws led by a man named Tanner is also on the trail, hoping to hijack the wagons and steal the valuable cargo. Cheyenne and Don Luis soon realize that they are being followed and do their best to prepare for a potential attack.

Throughout the episode, viewers get a glimpse into Cheyenne's backstory and his complicated relationships with the people around him. Despite his gruff exterior, Cheyenne is shown to be a man of honor and integrity, always willing to put himself in harm's way to protect others.

As the tension builds and the threat of Tanner's gang looms closer, Cheyenne and his fellow travelers must work together to overcome the challenges of the trail and make it safely to Santa Fe. With plenty of action, suspense, and character development, "Two Trails to Santa Fe" is a thrilling and entertaining episode of Cheyenne.
