Cheyenne is a western television series that began airing in 1955. The show centers on a former Union soldier named Cheyenne Bodie (played by Clint Walker) who travels through the American West taking odd jobs and helping those in need. Season 1 episode 7, titled "Decision," follows Cheyenne as he finds himself in the middle of a conflict between two rival factions in a small town.

The episode begins with Cheyenne riding into the town of Baker's Field, where he is greeted by a group of local men who mistake him for a gunfighter named Trigger Gentry. After clearing up the confusion, Cheyenne learns that the town is split between two factions: the cattlemen, led by a man named Clay Horton, and the homesteaders, led by a man named Jack Rawlins.

The cattlemen and homesteaders have been feuding for years over the land in and around Baker's Field. The cattlemen want to use the land for their cattle, while the homesteaders want to settle and farm it. The conflict has escalated to the point where both sides are heavily armed and tensions are running high.

Upon learning of the situation, Cheyenne decides to try and broker peace between the two factions. He first meets with Clay Horton, the leader of the cattlemen, and tries to reason with him. But Horton is stubborn and refuses to back down, insisting that the land belongs to the cattlemen and that the homesteaders should leave.

Cheyenne then meets with Jack Rawlins, the leader of the homesteaders. Rawlins is more open to compromise and agrees to meet with Horton to try and find a peaceful solution. Cheyenne accompanies Rawlins to the meeting and tries to mediate the discussion.

However, the meeting quickly turns violent when one of Horton's men draws his gun. In the chaos, Cheyenne manages to disarm him and the two sides agree to a truce. Cheyenne then proposes a compromise: the homesteaders can settle on part of the land, while the cattlemen can use the rest for their cattle. Both sides reluctantly agree to the deal.

The episode ends with Cheyenne riding out of town, satisfied that he was able to bring peace to Baker's Field. However, as he rides away, he is confronted by two of Horton's men who accuse him of being in league with the homesteaders. Cheyenne tries to reason with them, but they draw their guns and a shootout ensues.

"Decision" is a classic western episode that deals with themes of conflict and compromise. It showcases Cheyenne's ability to mediate disputes and his unwavering sense of justice. The episode is also notable for its strong guest cast, featuring performances from character actors such as John Dehner and John Doucette.
