In season 1, episode 10 of Cheyenne titled "West of the River," Cheyenne Bodie (played by Clint Walker) becomes a witness to a murder when he accidentally stumbles upon a group of stagecoach robbers who have just killed a man. As the only witness to the crime, Cheyenne's presence poses a threat to the criminals and they set out to silence him.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne accepts an offer to work for a saloon owner named Lila Bell (played by Nina Foch) in order to earn some money. Though Lila harbors feelings for Cheyenne, he is more interested in earning a living and keeping a low profile.
As the stagecoach robberies continue in the town of Springdale, Cheyenne teams up with the local sheriff to try and catch the culprits. However, their plans are complicated when Lila's ruthless ex-husband, Jake Thorne (played by Frank DeKova), returns to town and tries to blackmail Lila into giving him control of her saloon.
As tensions rise and violence breaks out, Cheyenne finds himself in the middle of a dangerous game and must use all his skills and courage to catch the killers and protect his newfound friends.
"West of the River" is a thrilling episode of Cheyenne that showcases the series' iconic blend of action and drama. With its well-crafted storyline and strong performances from the talented cast, this episode is a must-see for fans of classic westerns.
