Chelsea is a talk show hosted by comedian and actress Chelsea Handler. The show premiered on Netflix in 2016 and ran for two seasons until its conclusion in 2017. The show was produced three times a week and each episode had a runtime of approximately 30 minutes. The show had a very unique format compared to typical talk shows. Chelsea was filmed in an informal atmosphere, without a live audience, and with a set styled as a living room with a real fireplace. This provided a homely vibe that made the show feel much more personal than other talk shows. The show’s unique setting allowed for intimate conversations with guests and made guests feel more comfortable to share personal stories.

Chelsea frequently tackled controversial and topical subjects that were not often talked about in the mainstream media. Handler approached these subjects with a candid and brash approach, providing an open and uncensored format which allowed for deep and interesting conversations amongst the invited guests. These guests included singers, actors, politicians, and experts from various fields, giving the show a diverse roster of individuals.

Additionally, the show featured segments outside of the interviews, including commentary on current events and pre-taped comedy sketches with Handler, Jeff Wild and Daniel Maurio. These segments had different themes like travel, politics, or social issues.

One notable recurring segment was ‘Dinner Party’, which featured Handler, accompanied by a celebrity guest hosting a dinner party with a diverse group of guests. Some dinners took place in Handler's home, while other occasions were arranged at restaurants, allowing for a relaxed and light-hearted atmosphere for conversation.

Chelsea focused on having discussions with the guest and audience members from various backgrounds and points of views, and was sometimes involved in social experiments. This was evident in one episode where Handler attempted to break down stereotypes by taking a bus ride with Trump supporters. Another episode featured Handler meeting students from a historically black college and university to learn about their experiences.

Throughout the show, Handler was known for her candid and humorous style, often using her sharp wit and sarcasm to get her point across. The show was ultimately a continuation of Handler’s previous television work as a host, her work in stand-up comedy, and her previous television show Chelsea Lately.

Chelsea was a departure from the typical talk show format, allowing for free-flowing and open discussions in a unique and unconventional setting. This helped the show become a draw for those looking for something different than the usual talk-show fare.

In conclusion, Chelsea was a unique and groundbreaking talk show on Netflix, thanks to Chelsea Handler’s frankness and her varied guest list, and the informal atmosphere. The show was an unorthodox combination of humor, intellect, and seriousness that explored difficult topics with great humor and authenticity. Handler’s talent as a comedian and her willingness to approach controversial subjects head-on made Chelsea something different, fresh, and exciting for viewers.

Chelsea is a series that ran for 2 seasons (119 episodes) between May 11, 2016 and on Netflix
