Norm is a beloved regular at Cheers, and in season 8 episode 5, titled The Two Faces of Norm, he finds himself in a bit of a dilemma. The episode starts with Norm at the bar, nursing a beer and telling everybody about the pride he feels for having been the star of a beer commercial. He is so excited about it that he even shows off his autographed poster, which is dedicated to his beloved Vera.
Cliff and the rest of the gang, however, are not that impressed. They don’t see what’s so exciting about a guy getting his face on a beer can, especially since the beer in question isn’t very good. Norm is initially upset by their lack of enthusiasm, but he quickly brushes it off and promises to buy a round for everyone.
The next day, things take a turn for the worse when Norm’s boss, Mr. Denby, shows up at the bar. Norm thinks he’s there to congratulate him on his commercial, but he quickly realizes that there’s a problem. It turns out that the beer company has decided to change their slogan, and they want to replace Norm with a younger, more attractive model.
Norm is devastated, as he had been counting on the commercial to help him pay off some debts. He confides in Sam, who offers to let him work at the bar to make up some of the money. Norm is hesitant at first, as he doesn’t like the idea of being seen as a failure by his friends. However, he eventually agrees and starts working at the bar.
As Norm is working at the bar, he starts to notice that he’s getting a lot more attention from the ladies. He’s flattered at first, but he quickly realizes that they’re only interested in him because they think he’s rich. He decides to play along, telling them all sorts of tall tales about his wealth and success.
In the meantime, Norm’s wife Vera is worried about him. She thinks that he’s depressed and that he’s trying to cover it up by pretending to be successful. She decides to pay him a surprise visit at the bar, and when she sees how happy he is, she’s relieved. However, when she realizes that he’s been lying to everyone, she’s disappointed.
Norm eventually realizes that he’s been fooling himself, as well as everybody else. He comes clean to the ladies he’s been lying to and apologizes to Vera for not being honest with her. In the end, he learns that success isn’t measured by fame or wealth, but by the love and support of those around him.
This episode is a classic example of the type of storytelling that made Cheers such a beloved sitcom. It’s funny, heartwarming, and relatable, and it features some of the most beloved characters in television history. The Two Faces of Norm is a great episode for fans of the show, as well as anyone who enjoys good comedy with a touch of pathos.
