Ep 6. Paint Your Office

In the sixth episode of the sixth season of Cheers, entitled "Paint Your Office," a real estate developer visits the bar with a proposition for Sam. The developer wants to buy the building that houses Cheers in order to build a high-rise office complex, but wants Sam to stay on as the manager. At first, Sam seems excited about the prospect of a big payday, but his staff and regular patrons convince him to turn down the offer.

Meanwhile, Carla is facing her own office dilemma. She complains to Diane that her new job as a real estate agent is going poorly because she can't seem to close any deals. Diane suggests that Carla spruce up her workspace to make it more inviting to potential clients. Carla takes the advice to heart and hires a painter to redecorate the office. But when the painter shows up drunk and spills paint all over the place, Carla is left with a big mess and no way to pay for the damages.

She turns to the other Cheers employees for help, but they are all too busy dealing with their own problems. Woody is trying to impress a girl by pretending to know about art, while Coach is struggling to reconcile with his ex-wife. When Carla's husband Eddie shows up, she reluctantly accepts his offer to help pay for the damages. But when he demands that she quit her job and come back home to be a full-time wife and mother, Carla decides that she would rather face the consequences of her mistake than give up her newfound independence.

In the end, Sam turns down the real estate developer's offer and decides to keep Cheers as it is, much to the relief of his staff and patrons. Carla comes clean about the office disaster to her boss and is surprised when he responds with understanding and even offers to help fix the mess. Woody admits to his date that he doesn't really know much about art, but she finds his honesty charming. And Coach and his ex-wife decide to give their relationship another chance. In typical Cheers fashion, the characters come together to support each other through their various struggles and emerge stronger for it.
