It's Thanksgiving day and everyone at Cheers has plans except for Carla, who is scheduled to work at the bar. Diane feels sorry for her and invites her to join her and her wealthy family for Thanksgiving dinner. However, at the last minute, Diane's fiancé comes down with the flu and the entire family cancels their plans, leaving Diane and Carla alone at the bar.
Meanwhile, Sam has plans to spend the day with his family, but they end up forgetting about him and he's left all alone. He shows up at the bar to find Diane and Carla and the three of them decide to make the best of it and have Thanksgiving dinner at the bar.
As they start cooking, they're interrupted by a knock on the door and it's Frasier Crane, who was also left alone on Thanksgiving. He joins them for dinner and the four of them have a great time together, drinking and sharing stories.
Towards the end of the night, Sam gets a call from his family apologizing for forgetting about him and they invite him to come over for Thanksgiving dinner. He's torn between staying at the bar with his friends and going to be with his family, but ultimately decides to stay at the bar.
As the night winds down, Diane, Carla, Frasier, and Sam share a heartfelt moment, expressing their gratitude for each other and their non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The episode ends with the four of them toasting to their new family and enjoying each other's company.
