Ep 2. The Cape Cad

The Cape Cad is the second episode of the fifth season of Cheers. This episode centers around Sam's little brother, Derek, who pays a visit to the bar. Derek, who is full of himself and has always been the favorite child in the family, arrives in a flashy new car and wearing an expensive Cape Cod sweater.

Sam's friends at Cheers are not impressed by Derek's attitude and bragging about his job as a stockbroker. Carla, in particular, is openly hostile towards Derek, revealing that she doesn't like him because he reminds her of all the jerks who used to tease her in high school.

Meanwhile, Carla is watching all of this unfold with a smug look on her face. She is relishing the fact that Nick is getting under Derek's skin. However, she eventually realizes that the situation could escalate into something dangerous and decides to intervene.

Carla approaches Nick and tries to calm him down, but he is still angry and won't listen to reason. Sam, sensing that things are getting out of hand, rushes over to try and help his brother. In the end, a brawl breaks out, with Derek and Nick at the center of it.

The fight is eventually broken up by the police, who arrive on the scene. Derek and Sam both end up getting arrested and spend the night in jail. As they wait for their bail to be posted, Sam tries to make amends with his brother, who is feeling dejected and embarrassed. Sam admits that he always looked up to Derek, and he was hurt by the way Derek treated him during their night out.

Derek, in turn, confesses that he feels like he has been living a lie for a long time. He tells Sam that he hates his job and feels like he has been putting on a show to impress their family and friends. He is envious of Sam's simple life and wishes he could trade places with him.

In the end, the two brothers reconcile and decide to start fresh. They agree to put the past behind them and work on building a stronger relationship. The episode ends with Sam and Derek embracing, as Carla watches from behind the bar with a satisfied smile on her face.
