Diane is back in Boston to attend a ballet performance. The guys at Cheers are all excited to see her and catch up, but Diane is keeping a secret. She's planning on auditioning for the ballet company and wants to surprise everyone with her new career.
As the night progresses, Diane can't resist the urge to dance and starts performing in the middle of the bar. Her moves are impressive but unusual, and the regulars are unsure how to react. Carla, who has always been jealous of Diane, sarcastically asks if she's auditioning for the role of the dying swan. Diane, hurt by Carla's remark, runs to the bathroom and starts crying.
Sam tries to comfort Diane and offers to help her with her audition. However, Diane is afraid that if she doesn't get the part, she'll be devastated. Sam convinces her that it's better to try and fail than to not try at all.
Meanwhile, Woody has to deal with a customer who refuses to pay his tab, claiming he's already paid. Woody doesn't want to cause a scene, but Carla encourages him to stand up for himself. After some arguing, the customer agrees to pay his tab, but not before insulting Woody's intelligence.
Back at the bar, Diane is ready to perform for her audition. Sam, Cliff, and Norm are waiting anxiously to hear how it went. After a few tense moments, Diane bursts into the bar, screaming with joy. She got the part! The guys offer to buy her a drink to celebrate, but Diane has already moved on to the next stage of her career.
As she leaves Cheers, Diane realizes that she's made the right decision. Dance has always been her passion, and now she can finally pursue it. She says goodbye to the gang and leaves the bar, ready to embark on a new journey in her life.
