The Belles of St. Clete’s is the twenty-fourth and final episode of the third season of the beloved classic sitcom Cheers. In this episode, the Cheers gang is preparing for one of their famous “Friday Nighters,” where they invite a group of people from a particular industry or organization to come and enjoy themselves at the bar.
This time, they have invited a group of Catholic schoolteachers from St. Clete’s School for Girls. As they prepare for the party, Sam (Ted Danson) is concerned about the behaviour of his waitstaff, particularly Carla (Rhea Perlman), who is known for her abrasive personality and sharp tongue. Sam knows that even the slightest misstep could result in offending the nuns and ruining the night.
Meanwhile, Diane (Shelley Long) is determined to impress the nuns with her intelligence. She prepares a clever speech, but when it comes time to give it, her nerves get the best of her, and she botches it. She decides to take matters into her own hands and sneaks into the nuns' private room to try and fix things.
Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) is struggling with his own issues. He has recently started dating Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth), who is also a colleague of his at the hospital. Their relationship is strained, and Frasier confides in Norm (George Wendt) that he is unsure if he wants to continue seeing Lilith.
As the party gets underway, tensions are high, and the Cheers staff tries hard to keep everything running smoothly. Cheers regular Cliff (John Ratzenberger) even dresses up in a nun's habit to try and fit in. However, things quickly spiral out of control when Carla makes a minor mistake that offends one of the nuns.
The nuns decide to leave the party early, and Sam knows that the night is ruined. However, Diane comes up with a plan to fix things. She convinces the nuns to come back and promises to donate all of the bar's profits from that night to their school.
In the end, the nuns agree to return, and everyone at Cheers is relieved. However, there are still some surprises left in store before the end of the episode.
The Belles of St. Clete’s is a classic Cheers episode filled with humour, heart, and a few surprises. It showcases the beloved characters of the show at their best, with great performances from the entire cast. It’s a must-watch for any fan of the series, and a prime example of what made Cheers one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time.
