Charlie and Lola season 1 episode 26, titled "But I Am an Alligator", follows the adventures of Charlie, Lola, and their imaginary animal friends. In this particular episode, Lola is feeling grumpy and uncooperative, refusing to do anything Charlie suggests. When he suggests playing a game of crocodiles and monkeys, Lola insists on being an alligator instead of a monkey.
Charlie tries to reason with her, telling her alligators eat monkeys in the wild, but Lola insists that she is a friendly alligator who loves monkeys. As they play, Lola's alligator character becomes more and more outrageous, demanding that everyone call her "Madam Alligator" and ordering them around.
Charlie tries to get Lola to switch back to playing monkeys, but Lola is having too much fun being an alligator. When they take a break, Charlie implores her to "turn off" her alligator character and just be herself, but Lola refuses, insisting that being an alligator is who she really is.
Despite Charlie's attempts to get Lola to break character, the game continues and things start to get out of hand. Lola's alligator character becomes too bossy and starts making unreasonable demands. Charlie and the imaginary animals start to back away, afraid of her.
Finally, Lola realizes that her behavior is upsetting Charlie and the animals, and agrees to stop playing alligator. She reverts back to playing monkeys and has a great time. Charlie is relieved that everything is back to normal and they can continue playing together.
