In this episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, two well-known British presenters Valerie Singleton and Diane Louise Jordan go head to head in a battle to find the best antiques and make a profit at auction. The two women, who both started their broadcasting careers on BBC children’s programmes, begin their journey in a vintage Jaguar XK150 in the picturesque town of Reigate in Surrey.
With the help of antique experts Paul Laidlaw and Philip Serrell, the ladies explore various antique shops and markets in the area, searching for hidden gems and unusual items. Valerie and Diane have different approaches to the task at hand, with Valerie snatching up quirky items like a tin telephone box and a Victorian horse figurine, while Diane goes for more traditional pieces such as a Georgian bureau and a set of antique cutlery.
Throughout the show, we get to know Valerie and Diane better as individuals, learning about their careers and interests beyond antiques. We hear about how Valerie was one of the first female television reporters in Britain and how she once interviewed The Beatles, while Diane tells us about her faith and her work as a motivational speaker.
As the journey continues, the women head to the historic town of Lewes in East Sussex, where they visit a shop dedicated to antique and vintage children’s toys. Here, Valerie and Diane’s inner child comes out as they reminisce about their favourite childhood toys and games, with Valerie picking up a retro Space Hopper and Diane finding a beautiful wooden sailing ship.
The tension builds as Valerie and Diane get closer to the final auction in Worthing, West Sussex, where they will discover the true value of their items. With the help of auctioneer Simon Marsden, they go head to head in a thrilling bidding war, hoping to make the biggest profit. Valerie’s tin telephone box and Diane’s Georgian bureau are among the standout items, but will they sell for as much as the ladies hope?
As the auction draws to a close, tensions rise as they wait to see who made the most profit. While both women had some successes, only one can take home the victory. The final scene shows Valerie and Diane reflecting on their experience and discussing their favourite finds from the trip.
Overall, this episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip is a fun and engaging watch, with plenty of interesting antiques, charming British towns, and amusing banter between the two presenters. Fans of the show, as well as newcomers, should find it to be an enjoyable and worthwhile viewing experience.
