Lucy Alexander and Martin Roberts are the latest celebrity duo to hit the road on the Antique Road Trip. Together they drive around the beautiful countryside of Cumbria and the Lake District, in search of antiques that could potentially make them a tidy profit.
The episode opens with the two hosts meeting up with their antique expert, David Harper, who greets them with a warm smile and some much-needed caffeine. David assigns them a budget of £400 each and sets them on their way.
Their first stop is to an antique dealer's house where they are shown some unique antiques, including a replica of the famous African spear used in the movie 'Zulu.' Lucy is delighted to see a painting of a young girl that reminds her of her daughter and Martin is drawn to a beautiful crystal vase. Despite wanting to buy their sentimental items, Lucy and Martin know they must resist to find something that will sell for profit at auction.
Their second stop is to an antique shop in Kendal, where they meet a dealer specialising in coins and jewellery. Here, Lucy falls in love with a beautiful antique watch but isn't sure if it is the right antique to take with her to auction. Martin, on the other hand, is attracted to a fascinating collection of coins that have an interesting story behind them. They both reflect on the emotion and history behind antiques they have seen on their journey so far.
Next, they visit a furniture shop in Milnthorpe, where Lucy and Martin discover an impressive collection of antique furniture that almost transports them to another time. Lucy is intrigued by the Georgian dining table while Martin spots a beautifully carved bureau that could make them a handsome profit.
After all their browsing, Lucy and Martin head to the auction in Leamington Spa, where they are pleased to find that their selected antiques have matched their expectations and will be put up for auction that day. The excitement builds as they eagerly await their lot numbers to be called out one by one.
As the auction begins, Lucy and Martin sit anxiously beside David and watch as the bidders take their positions. The first item up for auction is Lucy's antique watch, which manages to fetch a great price. Next up is the painting that Lucy was so fond of, which also exceeds expectations and sells at a phenomenal price.
Martin's coins also perform well, and the grand finale is his beautiful carved bureau, which has the whole hall bidding fiercely. As the price steadily rises, David looks on in amazement as Martin's auction fever takes hold and he puts in a few bids himself. Martin is thrilled when his bureau sells at a price well above what they had expected initially, bringing his total takings to an incredible £516.30. Lucy's total is equally impressive with a final sum of £334.20.
The episode ends with congratulatory hugs and photos, the duo had a fantastic time on the show, surrounded by beautiful countryside, wonderful antique dealers, and of course, the excitement of the auction. It was an amazing journey for Lucy and Martin, they have certainly gained plenty of unforgettable memories along with some excellent profits.
