In season 6 episode 18 of Catfish: The TV Show, titled "Liar Liar Catfish on Fire," hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph help an aspiring music producer named Jayme who has been in a four-year-long online relationship with a woman named Lucas. Jayme claims that Lucas is the love of his life and the two talk every day, but they have never met in person.
Nev and Max discover that Lucas has sent Jayme several pictures of herself, but they all seem to be heavily edited. Additionally, they find out that there are other men who have also been talking to Lucas online, which raises suspicions about her true identity. When Jayme confronts Lucas about these inconsistencies, she denies it and refuses to video chat or meet in person.
As Nev and Max dig deeper, they uncover a web of lies and deceit that has been going on for years. They discover that Lucas is actually a man named Malik who has been pretending to be Lucas in order to talk to men online. Malik admits to using fake pictures and even creating a fake Facebook profile for "Lucas" to make the relationship seem more legitimate.
Jayme is devastated by the revelation and struggles to come to terms with the fact that the woman he thought he loved wasn't real. However, with the help of Nev and Max, he is able to move on and start the process of healing.
Throughout the episode, viewers see the emotional toll that catfishing can have on someone's life and how important it is to be honest and truthful in relationships, whether they are online or in person. The hosts offer support and guidance to those who have been deceived and encourage them to move forward and find real connections in the real world.
