In the season 5 premiere of Catfish: The TV Show, co-hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph receive an email from Dejay, a young rapper from Virginia who is desperate to meet his online love interest, Josiah. Dejay explains that he met Josiah on a social media platform and the two quickly hit it off, sharing a love of music and a desire to make it big in the industry. However, as their relationship progresses, Dejay begins to suspect that Josiah may not be who he claims to be.
Dejay explains that Josiah has been evasive about disclosing personal details, refuses to video chat, and has sent him pictures that appear to be of different people. Despite these red flags, Dejay finds himself falling for Josiah and is determined to find out the truth about his love interest.
As Nev and Max look into Josiah's online presence, they quickly discover that he is not the only person talking to Josiah. Malik, a young man from New York, also claims to be in a relationship with Josiah and has been talking to him for over a year. Malik and Josiah also share a love of music, but Malik has become increasingly frustrated with the lack of transparency and honesty from his online love interest.
Nev and Max bring Dejay and Malik together to compare notes and see if they can help each other get to the bottom of Josiah's true identity. The two men are initially hesitant to open up to each other, but as they realize how much they have in common, they become fast friends and allies in their quest for the truth.
As Nev and Max continue to investigate, they uncover a web of deception and lies surrounding Josiah's online persona. With the help of some high-tech investigative tools, they are able to track down the person behind Josiah's fake profile and confront them.
The season 5 premiere of Catfish: The TV Show is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, as Dejay, Malik, and Josiah navigate the complexities of online relationships and come face-to-face with the harsh realities of catfishing. With Nev and Max by their side, they are able to find closure and move forward, but not before uncovering some shocking truths about the people they thought they knew.
