Ep 7. Stephanie & David

Stephanie is an aspiring singer who is in search of her online love David. The two have been talking for over a year and Stephanie is certain that David is the one for her. However, the only problem is that they have never video chatted, nor have Stephanie ever seen David in person.

After months of anticipation and excitement, Stephanie's experience with David takes a sudden turn when she finds out that he has been ignoring their conversation and has been distancing himself for the past few weeks. Stephanie's concern for David only grows stronger when she finds out that David is in poor health and that he has been admitted to the hospital. Stephanie calls David's family but they are surprised that she exists since they had never heard of her before. Stephanie then reaches out to the Catfish crew who agrees to help her find out who David really is.

The Catfish team begins investigating David's social media pages and online activity and find numerous discrepancies in his story. David's social media accounts have very few followers, and his profile picture has fake likes. The team then tracks down an individual who has been in communication with David and the person contacts David.

The Catfish team then arranges for Stephanie to meet David in person. However, she is left heartbroken as the man who shows up is not the person whom she thought she had been talking to. Disappointed, she leaves and returns home.

Later, David finally agrees to come clean about his true identity, and the reason for his behaviour towards Stephanie. He reveals that his life isn't at all what he presents it to be and that the reason he lied about his identity was because he was insecure and felt like he wasn't good enough for Stephanie. In the end, David and Stephanie have a heart-to-heart conversation that clears the air between them.

Catfish: The TV Show season 4 episode 7, titled "Stephanie & David", is an emotional journey of a woman seeking love and the reality of identity hiding within the online world. It vividly highlights the importance of caution and care that people should exercise before becoming emotionally invested with someone they only know online. The episode takes the viewer on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as it shows how one's quest for love can turn into a lesson of deception, insecurity, and ultimately, acceptance.
