Jaquan & Shantel are the main subjects of this episode of Catfish: The TV Show, season 10 episode 6. Hosts Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford are introduced to Jaquan, a young man who is convinced he's engaged to a woman named Shantel. The two met online and quickly fell in love, but they've never met in person and Jaquan has some doubts about Shantel's true identity.
Jaquan tells the hosts that he's been talking to Shantel for almost a year and a half, but they've never been able to video chat. While they've exchanged pictures, he's been suspicious because none of them look recent and they're always at the same location. Jaquan is worried that Shantel might not be telling him everything and he wants to know the truth before they take their relationship to the next level.
Nev and Kamie start their investigation and immediately run into roadblocks. They try to call Shantel but she doesn't answer, and they're unable to find any social media accounts or other information that would help them identify her. They do find a few pieces of information that suggest Shantel might not be who she says she is, including a phone number with a different name attached to it.
As they continue to dig, the hosts discover that Shantel is associated with a fake Facebook profile that's been used to scam other people. They find several pictures that have been stolen from other social media accounts and used to create the fake profile. It seems clear that whoever is behind this fake account is not interested in forming a real relationship with Jaquan, but is instead trying to exploit him.
Nev and Kamie decide to set up a meeting between Jaquan and Shantel, hoping to get to the bottom of the mystery. They bring Jaquan to a park and tell him to wait for Shantel while they stay hidden and watch. When Shantel arrives, Jaquan is shocked to see that she looks nothing like the pictures she's sent him. She's also unable to answer any of the questions he has for her, and it quickly becomes clear that she's not the person she's been claiming to be.
As the hosts come out of hiding and confront Shantel, they discover that she's actually working with someone else to scam people online. She admits that she's been using a fake identity to lure men into sending her money and gifts. She tells Jaquan that she's sorry and that she never meant to hurt him, but he is understandably upset and hurt by the deception.
In the end, Jaquan realizes that he needs to move on from this relationship and start looking for someone he can trust. Nev and Kamie advise him to take some time for himself before jumping into another online romance, and they urge viewers to be cautious when connecting with strangers on the internet.
Overall, this episode of Catfish: The TV Show is a cautionary tale about being too trusting online and the dangers of falling for someone who might not be who they say they are. It's a reminder to viewers that it's important to be vigilant and to take steps to protect themselves when forming relationships over the internet.
