Mike and Felicia is the eleventh episode of the first season of Catfish: The TV Show. This episode follows Mike and Felicia, who have been in a four-year-long online relationship, but have never met in person. Mike reached out to the show to help him finally meet Felicia in person.
Mike met Felicia on a dating website, and they quickly hit it off. They would talk on the phone for hours and text each other constantly. Mike believed that Felicia was the one for him, and that they were perfect for each other. However, Felicia was always hesitant to meet up, citing various reasons such as being busy or not being able to afford it.
Nev and Max are immediately intrigued by Mike's story, as it had been four years of this online relationship without ever meeting in person. They travel to California to meet Mike and try to uncover the truth about Felicia.
Upon arriving in California, Nev and Max meet Mike and are struck by how genuine and sweet he appears. He shares his story with them and describes how much he loves Felicia and how he wishes to finally be able to meet and start a life with her. They quickly discover that Felicia also lives in California and they plan to set up a meeting between the two.
Nev and Max begin their investigation into Felicia and quickly find that things do not match up. They find an Instagram profile with the same name and pictures that Felicia had sent Mike, but the profile had hardly any followers and only followed a small number of accounts. The pictures on the Instagram account were also high-quality, leading Nev and Max to believe that the pictures were taken by a professional photographer.
As the investigation continues, Nev and Max discover that the phone number Mike had been texting and calling for the past four years did not belong to Felicia. They confront Mike with this information and he becomes increasingly emotional, imagining that everything he had hoped for with Felicia was falling apart.
After a long and difficult investigation, Nev and Max finally uncover the truth behind Felicia. It turns out that Felicia was a fake profile that had been created by a woman named Janelle. Janelle had created the profile as a way to cope with the loss of her brother. Mike had been a source of comfort for Janelle during a difficult time in her life, and she had not wanted to lose that. She had created the profile to be someone that Mike could rely on and had been talking to him for years.
Upon hearing this news, Mike is understandably heartbroken. Nev and Max sit down with him and try to help him work through his emotions. They acknowledge the pain that he is going through and try to provide him with some closure. Nev and Max also arrange for Janelle to meet with Mike to talk to him in person.
The meeting between Mike and Janelle is a difficult one, but they are able to come to an understanding. Janelle apologizes for what she did and tries to explain that it was never her intention to hurt Mike. Mike accepts her apology, but acknowledges that he needs to move on from this experience.
Overall, the episode Mike and Felicia is a poignant reminder of the dangers of online relationships. It highlights the importance of being careful about who we interact with online and reminds us that even the people we think we know can sometimes be something entirely different than what they appear to be. Through Nev and Max's help, Mike was ultimately able to find closure and the strength to move on from this difficult experience.
