Cartel Crew follows the lives of descendants of cartel families who are trying to break away from their family's criminal past and build a new life. In season 1 episode 7, titled "Forbidden Paradise Part 1," the group takes a trip to Colombia, the birthplace of many of their parents' criminal activities.
The episode begins with Stephanie preparing for the trip to Colombia. She is nervous about going back to a place where she has so many memories of her father, who was a high-ranking member of the cartel. Stephanie's mother also used to deal drugs, and she doesn't want to be associated with that lifestyle. Despite her reservations, Stephanie packs her bags and heads to the airport with the rest of the crew.
When they arrive in Colombia, they are greeted with stunning views of the countryside and a warm welcome from the locals. However, tensions start to rise when Marie reveals that she has invited her friend Michael, a former cartel member, to join them on the trip. Michael has a reputation for being untrustworthy, and some members of the group are skeptical about his presence.
After settling into their hotel, the group goes to see Michael's old boss, a woman named Gloriana. Gloriana used to work with Marie's father and has a lot of information about the cartel's activities in the area. She agrees to meet with the group and share her knowledge, but tensions once again rise when Michael shows up uninvited. Gloriana reveals some startling information about Marie's father's involvement in the cartel, which leaves Marie feeling betrayed.
Meanwhile, Eddie and Kat try their hand at fishing, but things take a dangerous turn when they accidentally catch a shark. The group also visits a local orphanage, where they learn about the challenges facing children in the area. Darnell opens up about his own difficult childhood and reveals that he wants to start a charity to help kids in need.
As the episode comes to a close, tensions continue to rise between Marie and Michael, and Stephanie struggles to come to terms with her feelings about Colombia. The group has only scratched the surface of the complicated history of the cartel in Colombia, and it remains to be seen how they will navigate the challenges ahead.
