Ep 17. We Deep Fried That!

  • July 9, 2015

In Episode 17 of Carnival Eats Season 1 titled "We Deep Fried That!", host Noah Cappe takes us on a culinary journey through the deep south. Known for their love of deep-fried foods, the southern states offer up some of the most mouth-watering dishes found on any carnival midway.

The first stop on Noah's journey is the South Florida Fair, where he indulges in a classic fair staple, the Corn Dog. But this isn't your ordinary corn dog; it's a bacon-wrapped corn dog, which is then deep-fried to golden perfection. At the fair, Noah also tries out the "World Famous" Garlic Crab Fries, which are covered in chunks of garlic butter and fresh crab meat.

Next, Noah journeys to the Georgia National Fair in Perry, where he gets a taste of some southern classics. First up is the Redneck Hamburger, which consists of a juicy beef patty, layered with crispy bacon, fried onion rings, and mac & cheese, all smothered in BBQ sauce. And what southern meal is complete without a tall glass of sweet tea? Noah samples a unique variation called "Tea-ramisu," which combines sweet tea with mascarpone cheese, ladyfingers, and cocoa powder.

The third stop on Noah's journey takes him to the Hillsborough County Fair in Florida, where he tries out some deep-fried desserts. Starting off with the classic funnel cake, Noah then moves on to a deep-fried Twinkie, which is drizzled with chocolate and served on a stick. But the real treat of the night is the deep-fried strawberry shortcake – a biscuit filled with fresh strawberries, topped with whipped cream, and, of course, deep-fried.

Continuing his quest for fried foods, Noah heads to the Tennessee State Fair in Nashville. Here, he samples some deep-fried delights such as the Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly, which is smothered in chocolate and served with a side of ice cream. Next up, Noah tries out the "Hot Mess" burger, consisting of a beef patty topped with mac & cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. But the highlight of the show is the deep-fried tornado potato, which is spiral-cut and fried until crispy, then topped with a choice of toppings like cheese, bacon, or chili.

The final stop on Noah's journey is the North Carolina State Fair, where he gets a taste of some southern BBQ. Starting off with the "Pulled Pork-a-Nator," a sandwich piled high with pulled pork, mac & cheese, and french fries, Noah's next stop is at the Krispy Kreme stand, where he tries out a unique twist on the classic donut – a glazed donut burger. But the real star of the show is the deep-fried turkey leg, which is rubbed with a flavorful spice blend and then deep-fried to juicy perfection.

Throughout the episode, Noah never fails to add his signature wit and humor, making Carnival Eats season 1 episode 17 a fun and entertaining feast for the senses. From classic fair staples to unique southern creations, this episode showcases the best of carnival cuisine and the southern culinary tradition of deep-frying just about everything under the sun.
