Card Sharks 86 is a classic game show that first aired on NBC in 1978 and was revived in 1986. Produced by FremantleMedia North America, the show is hosted by the legendary Bob Eubanks. It is a game of chance and strategy that involves two contestants who answer questions and guess whether the next card in a deck is higher or lower than the previous one.
The show starts with a coin toss to determine who goes first. The contestant who wins the toss is shown their base card, which they can choose to keep or switch with the next card from the top of the deck. They are then asked a question, and their answer determines whether the next card will be higher or lower than their base card. If they guess correctly, they continue to guess the next card until they either make an incorrect guess or reach the end of the deck.
After the first contestant completes their turn, the second contestant takes their turn in the same manner. If both contestants successfully reach the end of the deck, the contestant with the higher total wins the round.
The winner of the round earns $100 and the right to play the Money Cards. The Money Cards consist of seven cards, arranged in a pyramid formation. The contestant is given $200 to start and must wager some or all of their money on whether the next card in the pyramid is higher or lower than the previous card. If they guess correctly, their wager is doubled, and they can continue to guess the next card. If they make an incorrect guess, they lose their wager and the game ends.
If the contestant successfully guesses all seven cards, they win $28,800. The contestant can choose to leave the game with their winnings or risk it all by playing a new set of Money Cards with a higher starting amount of $1,000. If they guess all seven cards correctly in this round, they can win $716,800.
The show also features a bonus round called the Telephone Home Game. Viewers who have registered their phone numbers before the show can be called during the broadcast to play a round for a chance to win a cash prize. The contestant is given a base card and must guess whether the next card is higher or lower to continue. If they successfully guess four cards in a row, they win a cash prize.
Card Sharks 86 was a popular show during its initial run and is still enjoyable to watch today. Bob Eubanks brings his trademark wit and charm to the show, and the exciting gameplay keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
