Hank Moody is back in action in the sixth episode of Californication's first season, titled "Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder." As always, his life seems to be spinning out of control. Hank's relationship with his former girlfriend Karen has hit a rough patch, and he's feeling the effects of his self-destructive behavior more acutely than ever.
In this episode, Hank tries to escape the pressures of his life by indulging in a little absinthe with his friend and agent, Charlie. The two men get carried away with the green fairy and end up on a wild, drunken adventure throughout Los Angeles. Along the way, they encounter a motley crew of characters, including a washed-up rock star and a group of free-spirited hippies.
Meanwhile, Karen is struggling with her own problems. She's trying to juggle her responsibilities as a mother with her career as a successful writer, and she's not sure if she's making the right choices. When Hank's drunken antics cause her even more stress, she begins to wonder if he's worth the trouble.
As the night wears on, Hank and Charlie's wild escapades come back to haunt them. They find themselves in some sticky situations that threaten to derail their lives even further. Will they be able to pull themselves out of the mess they've created, or will they continue on their downward spiral?
"Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder" is a raucous, fast-paced episode that showcases the best and worst of Hank's personality. Despite his flaws, it's hard not to root for him as he struggles to get his life back on track. And with Karen's love hanging in the balance, the stakes have never been higher. This episode is a must-watch for fans of the series and anyone who loves a good, booze-fueled adventure.
