In the fifth episode of season five of Cake Boss, titled "Competition, Complications, & Communion," Buddy and his crew are facing a series of challenges, both in the kitchen and beyond. The episode opens with a competition between two teams of the bakery's finest decorators, who must each create a spectacular cake that captures the spirit of the Jersey Shore. The stakes are high, as the winning team will earn a coveted spot on the cover of a local magazine.
As the competition heats up, tensions run high between the decorators, who struggle to work together effectively on their respective cakes. Buddy tries to keep the peace and steer them in the right direction, but it's clear that the pressure is getting to everyone.
Meanwhile, outside of the kitchen, Buddy's sister Lisa is dealing with some complicated personal issues. Her ex-husband wants to buy her out of their shared business, but Lisa's not sure if she's ready to let go just yet. Adding to the drama, Lisa's daughter is about to receive her first holy communion, and Lisa is worried about making the day perfect.
Back in the bakery, the drama continues as the decorators struggle to meet their deadlines and bring their visions to life. Buddy steps in to provide guidance and support, but it's a race against the clock to finish the cakes in time for the judging.
In the end, the competition is fierce, with both cakes impressing the judges in different ways. But only one team can come out on top, and the winners are crowned with their coveted cover spot. Despite the stress and challenges they faced along the way, the team comes together to celebrate their victory and toast to their next adventure in baking.
