In the beginning, Caillou and his parents visit a construction site where he sees all the workers working together to build a tall building. He wishes he could be a construction worker someday and help build things too. Later that day, while playing at the park with his friends Leo and Clementine, they find a lost puppy and decide to take it to the animal shelter to look for its owner. Caillou is happy to help the puppy and the shelter workers by donating his favorite stuffed animal to keep the puppy company.

The next day, Caillou and his mother help an elderly lady carry her groceries to her apartment. The lady is grateful for their help and Caillou feels good for doing something nice. Later, while playing in his backyard, Caillou sees a bird sitting on a tree branch. After lunch, Caillou and his parents visit the fire station where he meets the firefighters and learns about their job. He gets to ride on a fire truck, wear a firefighter hat, and even use a fire hose to put out a cardboard fire. He learns that firefighters are everyday heroes who help people in emergencies and keep them safe.

The episode concludes with Caillou and his family watching a fireworks show in the park.
