Set in 1920s Spain, Cable Girls tells the story of a group of women who work as operators for a telecommunications company in Madrid. Season 3 begins with Chapter 1, which sees our favorite characters facing new challenges as they navigate personal and professional hardships.
In this episode, we catch up with our heroines Lidia (Blanca Suarez), Carlota (Ana Fernandez), Marga (Nadia de Santiago) and Angeles (Maggie Civantos) as they continue to work at the National Telephone Company. With the 1929 Financial Crash looming over Spain, the women are at risk of losing their jobs as the company seeks to cut costs.
Meanwhile, Carmen (Concha Velasco), Lidia's adoptive mother, is still grappling with the fact that her daughter is not the wealthy socialite she thought she was. Knowing that Lidia is hiding something from her, Carmen becomes increasingly suspicious of her daughter's behavior.
Elsewhere, Francisco (Yon Gonzalez) returns to Madrid after a two-year absence, determined to win back Lidia's love. However, Lidia is now happily engaged to her boyfriend, Carlos (Martiño Rivas), and is not interested in rekindling her romance with Francisco.
As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that our heroines are dealing with more than just work and romantic troubles. They are also fighting for their rights as women in a society that does not value their contributions. When a group of male employees try to undermine their authority at work, the women band together to fight back.
With its blend of romance, drama and social commentary, Chapter 1 sets the stage for an enthralling new season of Cable Girls. As our heroines face new obstacles and navigate the ups and downs of their personal lives, we are reminded of the power of female friendship and the importance of fighting for what you believe in.
