In this episode of BuzzFeed Unsolved: Supernatural, hosts Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej head to Salem, Massachusetts to investigate the infamous witch trials that took place in the late 17th century. The town has a history of mysterious happenings and ghostly activity, and the hosts hope to uncover whether or not the spirits of those accused of witchcraft still haunt the area.
Their investigation begins at the Salem Witch Museum, where they learn more about the witch trials and the people involved. From there, they visit the Old Burying Point Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the country, and known for its connection to the witch trials. Here, they attempt to communicate with the spirits of the accused, using a Spirit Box to ask them questions about their experience.
Next, the hosts visit the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin, one of the judges responsible for sentencing people to death for witchcraft. The house is said to be haunted by the spirits of those who were wrongly accused and executed, and Ryan and Shane hope to make contact with them. Equipped with a flashlight and a spirit box, they enter the home and immediately feel a strange energy. It's not long before they begin to hear unexplained noises and see strange shadows moving around the room.
As they continue their investigation, Ryan and Shane visit several other locations around Salem where ghostly sightings have been reported. They explore the Witch House, the only remaining building directly connected to the witch trials, and the Proctor House, where John Proctor, one of the most well-known accused witches, once lived. In each location, they use a variety of equipment, including EMF detectors and night vision cameras, to try and capture any evidence of paranormal activity.
Throughout the episode, Ryan and Shane share theories about the cause of the hauntings, including the possibility that the negative energy from the witch trials has created a residual haunting. They also discuss the concept of modern-day witch hunts, and how the fear and hysteria that drove the witch trials in Salem still exists today in different forms.
In the end, the hosts reflect on their investigation and whether or not they believe the spirits of the accused witches still haunt the area. While they may not have captured any concrete evidence, they both admit to feeling a strange energy in some of the locations they visited, and can't rule out the possibility that something paranormal is at play. As always, this episode of BuzzFeed Unsolved: Supernatural is equal parts informative and entertaining, and is sure to leave viewers with plenty to think about.
