In Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 3 episode 15, entitled "Consequences," the show delves into the consequences of one's actions, both through Buffy's perspective and from that of the rest of the characters. The episode opens with Buffy and Faith returning to the scene of last week's battle with a group of vampires. They quickly discover that a reporter has stumbled upon the scene and Buffy is tasked with making sure she doesn't reveal anything to the press.
However, despite her best efforts, the girl does end up printing a story, which leads to a discussion about the differences between good and bad press. Faith takes this as an opportunity to talk about how they're the "good guys" and how nothing they do is wrong. Buffy, ever the one to question things, isn't so sure.
Later on in the episode, Buffy and Faith are patrolling together again and end up in a battle with a group of vampires. In the fray, Faith accidentally kills the deputy mayor with a stray arrow. Buffy is horrified, but Faith is strangely calm and rational about the situation, insisting that they hide the body and cover their tracks.
Throughout the episode, the tension builds between Buffy and Faith as they both deal with the aftermath of the murder. Buffy is wracked with guilt and wants to turn themselves in while Faith lies and tries to convince Buffy to stick with her plan to keep silent. The two girls eventually turn against each other and Buffy is forced to face off against an increasingly unstable Faith.
Meanwhile, the rest of the cast is dealing with their own problems. Willow and Xander are having a fight about their friendship and Giles is trying to figure out what's going on with Buffy and Faith. Oz, on the other hand, is starting to notice some strange changes in Willow and is worried about what's going on with her.
The episode itself is intriguing because it deals with a dark and heavy theme, the consequences of our actions. Buffy and Faith are forced to deal with the consequences of their actions in different ways and come to starkly different conclusions. While Buffy is consumed with guilt and wants to make amends for what she's done, Faith denies any responsibility and is willing to lie and cover up the truth.
As the episode progresses, Buffy starts to realize that the old adage "no good deed goes unpunished" really is true. Her attempts to do the right thing end up making everything worse and she's left with the weight of the world on her shoulders. It's a stark reminder that doing the right thing isn't always easy or even necessarily rewarding.
Overall, "Consequences" is an excellent episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer that delves into some pretty deep issues. It's a dark and complex episode that sees the cast grappling with some pretty heavy themes, offering up some unique perspectives on interesting conundrums. It's also a great showcase for the cast's acting abilities, particularly Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Dushku, who give some of their best performances of the series. Fans of the show won't want to miss this one.
