In Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 episode 2, titled "Hitchcock & Scully," the titular characters take center stage as Jake and Terry attempt to uncover their hidden skills. When Hitchcock and Scully's antics get their team disqualified from a competition for the title of Ultimate Detective Slash Genius, the pair are forced to prove themselves in an interrogation. As the episode unfolds, viewers are treated to hilarious revelations about Hitchcock and Scully's pasts and their surprisingly effective strategies.
The episode opens with Jake and Terry eagerly preparing to compete in the NYPD's annual Ultimate Detective Slash Genius competition. However, their excitement quickly turns to horror when they realize that Hitchcock and Scully have been assigned to their team. The lazy, bumbling detectives are infamous for their love of food and their inability to solve cases, and Jake worries that they'll ruin his team's chances of winning the coveted title.
As the competition kicks off, it's clear that Jake and Terry's fears were not unfounded. Hitchcock and Scully are more concerned with sampling the competition's various food offerings than with actually competing. Their incompetence soon leads to their team's disqualification, but Jake and Terry are given a chance to redeem themselves by solving an impossible case.
To their surprise, Jake and Terry discover that Hitchcock and Scully actually have some hidden skills. Hitchcock is a master of old-school surveillance techniques like wiretapping and stakeouts, while Scully is adept at using his impressive memory to find obscure clues. With their help, Jake and Terry are able to solve the case and win the competition.
However, the real fun of the episode is in the flashback scenes that reveal Hitchcock and Scully's pasts. In one memorable sequence, we see a young Hitchcock as a handsome ladies' man who manages to seduce a group of women with his terrible fake accent. In another scene, we see a young Scully who is obsessed with cleanliness and order, a far cry from the belching, farting detective we know today.
Overall, "Hitchcock & Scully" is a hilarious and entertaining episode that sheds some light on two of the show's most beloved characters. While they may not be the most competent detectives on the squad, Hitchcock and Scully prove that they have some impressive skills when it comes to solving crimes. It's a reminder that sometimes the most unexpected team members can turn out to be the real MVPs.
