After several critically lauded seasons and numerous award wins, everyone's favorite squad of misfit Brooklyn cops is back for yet another advanced episode of the hit show. Episode 17 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine's fifth season, DFW, delivers a continuation of the show's signature comedic flair and engaging storytelling.
The episode opens with Peralta (played by Andy Samberg) and Terry (played by Terry Crews) accompanying Amy (played by Melissa Fumero) and Gina (played by Chelsea Peretti) to a silent disco in Queens. Terry and Peralta are enjoying the party in the squad car when they get news about an extensive drug bust going down in Dallas Fort Worth. While they were initially prepared to sit it out and keep partying, they find themselves caught up in the action when it's revealed that the case has connections to their own department.
Peralta and Terry head to Texas to lend a hand to the local PD, where they meet their new counterparts and get right into the thick of things. It is here where they get to meet their one-of-a-kind counterparts in the other department, who cause much hilarity in their confrontations with the local cops. With much to do and little time to do it in, they are almost outmatched in the task at hand when they set out to blow apart the case, but they remain equally resolute in their mission.
Meanwhile, back in Brooklyn, Holt (played by Andre Braugher) and Diaz (played by Stephanie Beatriz) team up to tackle a work crisis that threatens their entire unit. The two detectives must overcome their vastly different leadership styles if they hope to return order to their team and maintain the success that has become apparent to all those around them. And for Hitchcock (played by Dirk Blocker) and Scully (played by Joel McKinnon Miller), the situation is particularly desperate because they don't want to miss out on the action in Texas.
What follows is an exhilarating episode filled with humor, suspense, and action, as the characters navigate through their various challenges in their own unique ways. The narrative is skillfully interwoven, with each storyline building nicely upon the others, and the cast proves as solid as ever. The show’s distinct and diverse cast delivers standout performances and constantly retains the viewer's attention with their collective sense of humor, marking DFW as yet another highlight in the show's already excellent run.
Overall, Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5 episode 17 makes for an enjoyable watch, thanks to its excellent writing and strong performances. The episode does not disappoint when it comes to delivering the show's signature blend of humor, crime solving, and character development. Moments of drama, as well as broad laughs, are woven seamlessly through the plot, providing a truly engaging and entertaining viewing experience for fans of the comedic police procedural.
